St. Johns Ambulance

St. Johns

Over half of the 47,000 volunteers in St. John Ambulance are young people between the ages of 6 to 16. They are called Badgers and Cadets.

Badgers
Badgers, aged 6 to 10, are the youngest volunteers in St. John Ambulance. Badger groups meet at least once a week. First Aid instruction and practice is combined with other fun activities such as outdoor pursuits and field trips. Badgers follow the 'Badger Course in Absolutely Everything'. Topics covered range from cooking and gardening to safety and basic First Aid.

Cadets
St. John Ambulance Cadets learn many skills that help to shape them into vital members of their communities. Meeting at least once a week, Cadets are trained in First Aid, Social Care and Communications. Cadets are active participants in their local divisions, attending many local duties. The social calendar of a Cadet is also packed with a variety of excursions and gatherings. Many Cadets work towards their Grand Prior Award Badge, which entails studying a mixture of St. John history, social issues, survival and lifesaving skills, and administrative skills. Grand Prior Cadets are honoured by a yearly reception with Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal.
