A
HAPPY AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO
YOU
ALL, and Happy Birthday BCVYO - TEN years old and around £750,000
given out to voluntary youth groups in that time, not
bad at all.
POSITIVE
LINKS
I am
pleased to say that at a recent meeting with Nick Johnson,
the new Chief Executive of Bexley Council, an
agreement was made to improve the ties between the statutory
sector and the voluntary youth sector. Along with this
is a new 'Compact' between voluntary and community groups
in Bexley, Bexley Council and Bexley Care Trust. The
Compact sets out joint aims to strengthen the relationship
between
the Council and the Care Trust and local voluntary and
community groups for mutual advantage and to benefit
the community. Mr Johnson said, on behalf of the councillors,
that the work done by the voluntary sector was invaluable
and they look forward to working together with us.
A MODEL
FOR ALL
At a recent meeting I was lucky to meet Andrew Cooney,
a 23 year old Scout Leader, who - a year ago - was the
youngest person ever to reach the South Pole. He set
off to achieve a goal that he had set for himself
and strived
to go 'one step further' and make his dream a reality.
He said 'Achievement is not what people expect or think
of you, it's about having a dream or goal and achieving
it despite setbacks and adversity'. He demonstrated
that the determination to succeed or to achieve a
personal
goal overrides the difficulties that might be faced.
SUCCESS AND SADNESS
The climbing wall is open - and what a success, congratulations
to all those involved, although we are saddened to hear
of the untimely death of Trust Thamesmeads executive
Mr Roland Ashley, whose hard work and enthusiasm managed
to get the project off the ground. He will be sorely
missed.
SUPPORT
NEEDED
On another subject, what a shame we had to cancel
the sailing day in September, no one booked! (in time),
but
we will try again next Spring, Saturday the 17th of
April, book now to avoid disappointment.
Our AGM and celebration party will be on
Wednesday the 19th of May 2004
at the Civic Office. Please make a note of it.
Everyone is welcome, please contact:-
