The AGM, back in May 2003.

The new Mayor, Councillor Denis Daniels, said how pleased he was to see so many volunteers there on the night. He said 'so often we hear on the news or read in the press about the problems caused by young people and the comment that is often heard is why don't they do something about it?' He went on 'Well you have done something about it. You have given up your evenings and weekends, you have taken on a lot of hard work, and in many cases you have enlarged and enriched your own families by adopting the young people involved in your groups. Some of that work we will see tonight and for that you can all be justly proud'. 'But, for the most part, although I am sure you derive a lot of pleasure from your work, you are the unsung hero's of the Borough'. 'So on behalf of the people of the Bexley I would like to say a big thank you for your past achievements and please keep up the work'.

Alec Nunn, a BCVYO Ltd Trustee sent in the following:-

To all those who attended our AGM in May, a big thank you with our sincere thanks for your support for young people in our community. Particular thanks to our Mayor Councillor Denis Daniels for his support and words of encouragement to us. In addition, our thanks to those young people who we had given financial support, to go to the Scout World Jamboree, and the Girl Guide, who had gone to the Irish International Camp, for their presentation and feedback, which is so important in providing evidence that the local authotities financial grant to BCVYO does make a difference. The Rainbows, Brownies, Beavers Cubs, some of the junior section of uniformed organisations feed up into senior Guides, Scouts etc, aged 13 upwards (as do Infants & Primary Schools feed into Secondary Education system) an essential step forward for all children if they are to succeed and be self-motivated. Financial support to all ages is essential especially where uniformed Voluntary Leaders give up their leisure time to help so many young in our community. Statistics have shown that the limited money given to BCVYO has been distributed to help the largest group of young people in our community. Please note that the Scout Organisation is the largest International Youth Organisation in the World. These days work pressures and demands makes fundraising limited and difficult and our grants provided do make a difference. The way ahead for grants needs to be clear and supportive if we are to continue to help the important Voluntary Sector to continue to have an impact into the Youth Services in our community.
