Football section

With this issue all the football clubs will have their re-registration and grant forms included so return them as soon as possible to claim your grant. Several members of the BCVYO, as usual, still haven't claimed their grants so get claiming or you'll lose out. Forms can be downloaded from the website, but haven't I said that already?

Foot's Cray Lions at Brienne-Le Chateau International Football Tournament.
By Roy Sultana, under 13s A Manager

This was my first trip to France and I knew right from the moment the coach set off that this was going to be a lively few days. With such a mixture of age groups and teams I had prepared myself for a few challenges here and there, but nothing could be farther from the truth. All players got on so well, the fact that football was the main interest seemed to just bond them all together. Brienne itself was a quaint village that oozed friendliness. In the evenings, when the boys kicked a ball about after dinner, the local lads came out in force to play with them, the language barrier tacking a back seat. The tournament itself was very well structured, I was very impressed with their organization, it takes some doing to organise so many matches with so many teams from different nations and backgrounds. The standard of football was very high coupled with the gentlemanly behaviour of all the players, it was a joy to watch. We reached the finals but lost 2 - 1. Disappointment from our lads lasted all of ten minutes after which they were happily kicking a football around again, excitedly talking about the theme park trip the following day. Having not been with Foot's Cray Lions on tour before, I was pleasantly surprised. The hosts were so efficient with glorious food and exceptional company, so you could say that my first tour was 'terrific'. When's the next one?

Guides

On March the 10 th Baldwyns Park Rangers joined Lamorbey Rangers at Bexley Civic Offices to participate in a debate about selective schooling in Bexley. On arrival at the offices, they were shown the councilors office, had refreshments and found out a bit how Bexley spends their money. They went into the council chamber where they sat around the tables and used the microphones, the same ones used during council debates. The two sides put forward their views and opinions on the topic and summarized formally as in a proper council debate. After 20 minutes a vote was taken and it was concluded that the majority were in favour of selective education in the Bexley Borough.

All the young ladies enjoyed themselves and would like to repeat the experience again in the future. Thanks must go to Councillor Sharon Massey for her help and support in this activity. Melissa Wilson - Guider
